  • Among Books in Copenhagen

Postcards from Scandinavia - Day 14 In Copenhagen, I wandered into its libraries and bookstores - quiet sanctuaries tucked between caf├йs and cobbled lanes. Shelves reached up like cathedrals of thought, filled with stories in languages I couldnтАЩt read, yet somehow understood. The hush inside felt sacred, like the city itself paused to listen. ThereтАЩs something timeless about spaces where words live longer than people. Even without speaking Danish, I could feel the pulse of curiosity, the comfort of pages turning, the soft murmur of readers lost in worlds of their own. Books remind us that belonging isnтАЩt always about place - itтАЩs about resonance. You donтАЩt need to understand every word to feel at home among them. It took me back to afternoons in Indian bookstores, where dust floated in golden light and silence felt like company. The same peace followed me here, across continents, through shelves of unfamiliar alphabets. Perhaps home isnтАЩt where weтАЩre born, but where the words around us feel alive.

  • The Gap year - Pauses that Define Us

Postcards from Scandinavia - Day 10 At a small-town pizzeria in Norway, we met a young girl who had just finished high school. Between serving slices and smiles, she told us she was on hergap year - a year to travel, work and figure out what she truly loved. She spoke with such calm certainty, not about having it all figured out, but aboutallowing timeto figure it out. No rush to choose a path, no pressure to prove, just space to explore. It made me think, what if we all allowed ourselves such pauses between lifeтАЩs phases? A year not to race ahead, but to listen inwardly. Perhaps weтАЩd end up choosing lives, not just careers. Back home, we often hurry our young ones into the next big thing - college, job, expectationsтАФforgetting that self-understanding takes time too. Watching her, I felt how freedom and clarity often walk hand in hand. What if the most important decisions in life are meant to comeaftera pause, not before it?

  • The desire to be loved is the last illusionтАж give it up & u will be free - Margaret Atwood┬а

The desire to be loved - it sounds so human, so natural, so poetic.┬а And yet, it is the last illusion that keeps us chained. We spend lifetimes seeking love from parents, friends, partners, the world.┬а We twist, shrink, and perform, hoping someone will see us, choose us, love us. But what if love was never meant to be found ? What if it was meant to be realised ┬а within? The moment you stop chasing love, you discover something profound - love was never missing. It was merely buried beneath layers of need, fear, and approval. The desire to be loved turns us into beggars, waiting for crumbs of validation. But when you drop that desire, you become whole, no longer asking to be completed, but just overflowing from within.┬а Freedom begins where the need ends. You still love, but without fear. You still care, but without expectations. You give, not because you want something back, but because giving itself is joy. To be free from the illusion of needing love is to be one with the divine. ItтАЩs when you stop saying, тАЬPlease love me,тАЭ and start whispering, тАЬI am ┬аlove.тАЭ Then, life changes, you donтАЩt wait for love to arrive; you become the source of it. And in that wholeness, the universe bends softly towards you, not because you needed it, but because you finally understood it was never separate from you. Rani

  • In the End, You Only Regret the Chances You DidnтАЩt Take & the decisions you were too afraid to make

In the End, You Only Regret the Chances You DidnтАЩt Take & the decisions you were too afraid to make I heard this line in one of my favourite shows - Chesapeake Shores. And it hit me like a rock.┬а One thing life quietly teaches us, usually a little later than we would like, is, in the end, the deepest regrets are not about the things we tried and failed at. They are about the chances we never took and the decisions we were too afraid to make. When we are standing at a crossroads in life, fear often becomes the loudest voice in the room. Fear of what people will say. Fear of failing. Fear of making the wrong choice. Fear of leaving the comfort of what we already know. So we pause. We overthink. We wait for the тАЬperfect time.тАЭ And slowly, what once felt like a possibility starts fading into a quiet what if . The strange thing about life is that it rarely punishes us for trying. Even when things donтАЩt work out the way we imagined, they still leave us with something valuable like lesson, experience, growth, clarity, resilience. A failed attempt still moves us forward. But the opportunities we never take donтАЩt give us anything except lingering doubtтАж.. and lifelong regret. They sit somewhere in the back of our mind, reminding us of the version of life we were too hesitant to explore. Many of us spend a large part of our lives playing safe. We follow the expected path. We do what feels secure, what feels acceptable, what doesnтАЩt disturb the comfort of those around us. It keeps life stable, predictable, manageable. But somewhere deep within, a small voice keeps asking a simple question - what would have happened if I had just tried? Years later, when we look back, we rarely regret the bold steps we took. We remember them with pride, even if they were difficult, even if we made mistakes on that path. What hurts more are the dreams we quietly shelved, the conversations we never had, the journeys we postponed, the decisions we delayed because courage felt heavier than comfort. Life has a strange way of reminding us that time moves whether we move with it or not. Opportunities donтАЩt always knock twice. The window that looks wide open today may not exist tomorrow. And that is why courage matters, not because it guarantees success, but because it prevents the weight of regret. Taking chances does not mean being reckless. It simply means being honest with yourself. It means listening to that inner voice that knows when something matters to you. It means choosing growth over hesitation and experience over endless doubt. In the end, life is not a checklist of safe decisions. It is a collection of moments where we either trusted ourselves or held ourselves back. And when the years pass and we sit quietly with our memories, the only question that truly matters is -┬а Did I live bravely enough to at least take chances & make decisions that I WANTED TO?┬а So get up & take chances, make decisions, make mistakesтАж but donтАЩt stop living YOUR life in the fear of тАШwhat ifтАЩ or тАШwhat will people say?тАЩ Yours eternallyтАж.

  • Little Feet, Long Road

Postcards from Scandinavia - Day 11 While waiting for a train at a quiet Norwegian village, I noticed children, some barely eight years old, getting off the train on their own. Tiny backpacks, confident steps. They walked along the path home without a hint of fear, as if the whole world already belonged to them. It felt extraordinary and yet so ordinary to them. No one stared, no one worried. It was a kind of freedom that came not from protection, but from trust. Perhaps true safety isnтАЩt created by holding on tighter, but by teaching confidence early. Trust, after all, is the first bridge between fear and freedom. Back home, even at twice their age, weтАЩre rarely left alone to walk. Seeing those little ones move with such assurance made me realize, independence isnтАЩt a milestone; itтАЩs a mindset nurtured quietly, step by step. What would change if we raised our children to walk through the world with trust, not just caution?

  • Is world really such a small place ?

Postcards from Scandinavia - Day 9 While walking through OsloтАЩs downtown, I saw an elderly couple, uncle clicking auntyтАЩs pictures near a quiet corner. Me and my husband smiled and offered, тАЬShall we click one together?тАЭ Their faces lit up instantly, as if we had gifted them a small joy. After the photos, we began talking, just a polite exchange of тАЬWhere are you from?тАЭand suddenly the air changed. They replied in Gujarati, our mother tongue. A few more words, a few surprised laughs, and we discovered aunty was from my dadтАЩs hometown. She even knew my aunt! What began as a casual gesture turned into a thread connecting lives across countries. A photo became a bridge. Sometimes, the universe reminds us how beautifully intertwined we all are. We spoke to my dad on call right there, laughter filling the Oslo air. Later, I learned they are in touch with my parents even after we returned home. Two strangers weтАЩd never met now part of a story that continues.A random photo clicking resulted in the connections that might now stay for life. Maybe the world isnтАЩt small, itтАЩs simply well-connected by moments waiting to happen, if only we stop long enough to say hello.

  • тАЬThe PeaksтАЭ

The peak of happiness is crying. The peak of sadness is laughter. And the peak of anger is silence. Life is strange. Have you ever been so happy that your eyes just filled up? No drama. No reason. Just a full heart that couldnтАЩt hold it anymore. Some happy moments donтАЩt fit into smiles, they need tears to breathe. And then there are days when you laugh in the middle of pain. Not because itтАЩs funny but because if you donтАЩt laugh, you might break. That small laugh becomes your survival instinct. ItтАЩs just your way of getting through the moment. And anger, the real anger - after the shouting, after the explanations, after trying everything to make someone understand, all that is left is silence. Not out of ego silence. Just a tired acceptance, a sign of moving on when heart knows there is no choice left - that silence. A quiet that comes from being emotionally done. The kind where you realise reacting wonтАЩt change anything. So you choose your peace instead. Maybe emotions arenтАЩt meant to be controlled. Maybe they are meant to be felt fully until they soften on their own. We donтАЩt always need to analyse what we feel. Sometimes we just need to allow it. Cry when happy. Laugh when hurting. Stay silent when words donтАЩt matter anymore. ThatтАЩs not weakness. ThatтАЩs you - quietly growing within, as a human. Rani

  • There is always a choice

There is always a choice. Even when you think there isnтАЩt, youтАЩre still choosing. Choosing silence over confrontation, comfort over courage, fear over faith, or simply letting things be. Life is not made only by the choices we act upon, but equally by the ones we avoid. Every yes, every no, and even every тАЬmaybe laterтАЭ carries energy shaping us who we become. We often say, тАЬI didnтАЩt have a choice.тАЭ But the truth is, we did, we always do, we just didnтАЩt like the consequence that came with the other option. Responsibility is the shadow of freedom. The moment we accept that every situation holds a choice, we move from being victims of life to conscious participants in it. The smallest shifts, choosing peace over proving, kindness over ego, presence over distraction have the power to completely redefine our journey. Choices are like seeds, what you water grows. So today, pause and ask yourself : what am I choosing? Are you choosing fear or faith? Reaction or reflection? Resentment or release? Tonight, before you sleep, write down three choices you made today, consciously or subconsciously. Ask yourself , did they bring you closer to peace or pull you away from it? If they didnтАЩt align with who you want to be, choose again tomorrow. Because life will always whisper, you have a choice, again and again. Your power lies not in control, but in awareness. The freedom you seek has been waiting - right inside every moment you choose with intention. Rani

  • Cinnamon, Cobblestones & Calm @Haga

Postcards from Scandinavia - Day 4 Strolling through Haga, with its cobblestone streets, pastel houses, and the smell of freshly baked kanelbullar drifting through the air, I felt time slow down. Locals sat at small caf├йs, talking softly, as if the day had no rush to end. Every corner of Haga seemed to whisper simplicity, proof that beauty doesnтАЩt always arrive with grandeur. Sometimes it hides in quiet lanes, in wooden windows, in the laughter of strangers over coffee. Maybe thatтАЩs what travel teaches best, not to seek the extraordinary, but to notice the ordinary with new eyes. It reminded me of old neighborhoods back home, where small stores and slower lives once felt normal. Here, in a foreign street, I found a familiar comfort. a world that still pauses to breathe. How often do we walk past whatтАЩs beautiful, just because it looks too ordinary?

  • Reading fika during fika

Postcards from Scandinavia - Day 3 In Sweden, fika isnтАЩt just coffee - itтАЩs a pause, a ritual of slowing down. Today, I sat with a book in hand, sipping warm coffee as the world outside seemed unrushed. Reading during fika felt like two comforts meeting each other. It wasnтАЩt about finishing chapters or emptying the cup. It was about being fully present with both, the words on the page and the warmth in my hands. A reminder that nourishment isnтАЩt only for the body, but for the soul too. Perhaps this is why fika is sacred: it teaches us that rest is not the absence of doing, but the presence of being. Back home, I often drink tea while scrolling, rushing, or planning. Today, with fika, I remembered what it feels like to simply be with my cup and with myself. When was the last time you sat with your drink, not as a habit, but as a little ceremony of presence?

  • Language pride

Postcards from Scandinavia - Day 2 In Gothenburg, I noticed how locals carried their language with quiet pride. They spoke Swedish to one another with ease, switching to English only when someone couldnтАЩt follow, always gently, always politely. It wasnтАЩt about excluding, but about belonging. They held their roots firmly while still opening a window for others to step in. The balance felt graceful, like an embrace that says, тАЬYou are welcome, but this is who we are.тАЭ It made me wonder how often we rush to abandon what is ours, our words, our stories, just to fit into a wider world. Perhaps true confidence is not in replacing, but in carrying what is ours with tenderness. It reminded me of how, back home, many hesitate to speak in their mother tongue, thinking it less тАЬmodern.тАЭ Yet in Gothenburg, I saw pride woven into language like a thread that kept the fabric of community strong. What language within us - be it words, values, or ways of living, are we still afraid to speak with pride?

  • Some delays teach you something beautiful

Postcards from Scandinavia - Day 1 I was traveling to Europe with my daughter - just the two of us, since my husband was already there for work and we were joining him for our vacation. When the flight was delayed, anxiety rushed in. What if we missed the connection? How would I manage, with only her by my side? But in that very moment, Nayra, just fourteen, slipped her hand into mine and said softly: тАЬMumma, everything will be fine. You always say whatever happens, happens for good. So there will be something good in this too. LetтАЩs play a game now.тАЭ Her words carried more power than the announcement board - dissolved my fear in an instant.. Sometimes, children hold the wisdom we forget in our hurry, they remind us that faith is lighter than fear. And the one you thought you had to protect ends up protecting you. We ended up playing games for an hour. IтАЩve often been her safe place. Yesterday, she became mine. In that small shift, I saw how love moves both ways - quietly, unexpectedly. Perhaps this is what parenting truly is a circle of holding and being held. Maybe the real journey doesnтАЩt begin when the plane takes off, but when someone we love reminds us to breathe again.
